EAHS Announces Rotary Students of the Month for January

Emily Phillips and Bradley Kreider are the Elizabethtown Area High School Rotary Students of the Month for January. The program recognizes student achievements and seeks to sustain a culture of learning and belonging that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the high school community. The honorees are selected for demonstrating exceptional dedication to their studies, leadership and character qualities, and positive contributions to the school community.

Emily is the daughter of Scott and Brenda Phillips of Elizabethtown. She was named an AP Scholar with Distinction for scoring 3 or higher on five or more Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and she was a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship program. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency presented Emily with a Certificate of Merit for achieving one of the 5,000 highest SAT or ACT scores in Pennsylvania.

At the underclassman awards program, Emily received academic excellence awards in areas such as Honors General Science, French II, Honors Competition Science, AP World History, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Biology. She also received the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award for demonstrating superior intellectual promise in the field of science.

Emily is secretary of the Key Club, co-president of the book club, a section leader for the marching band, and a student leader for the Bible club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, the mountain biking club and the Competition Science and Science Olympiad teams. As a member of the Competition Science team, Emily achieved first place in the microbiology category at the North Museum Science and Engineering Fair.

She plays the French horn in school musical groups, including the concert band, marching band, orchestra, and pit orchestra. She has been recognized by both the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association in their all-star ensembles.

In the community, Emily is involved with Kenbrook Bible Camp as a counselor in training and maintenance volunteer. She is a member of the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, participating in the congregational worship team, youth worship team, intergenerational choir, and instrumental ensembles. She has served on mission trips to Niagara Falls, N.Y.; New Kensington, Pa.; and Bogota, Colombia.

Emily plans to attend Messiah University to study environmental sciences with a minor in sustainability.

Bradley is the son of David and Lois Kreider of Elizabethtown. He is a member of National Honor Society, the concert and marching bands, the orchestra, and the cross-country and track and field teams. Bradley received recognition from the Lancaster-Lebanon League as a Section II First Team All-Star and Academic All-Star in cross-country. The Elizabethtown Optimist Club honored Bradley as its Athlete of the Month. In the community, Bradley is a member of Cross Roads Church in Mount Joy, where he serves as a camera operator and livestream director. Bradley plans to attend college to study computer science and compete in cross-country and track and field.
