Auction will benefit Solid Rock Youth Ministries

Solid Rock Youth Ministries will host its annual benefit auction and meal on Friday, March 22, at Wesley Church, 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville. The event will kick off with a silent auction when doors open at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a live auction at 7:10 p.m.

Tickets are available to purchase online for a set price, and a discounted rate will be offered to children ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 years old and guests who only wish to attend the auction and not the meal will receive free admission. Dinner will consist of ham, potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw, a roll and a whoopie pie.

The silent auction and live auction will include various items that have been donated by local businesses and members of the community, such as gift baskets, furniture, hiking gear, quilts, children's toys and homemade crafts. The auctions will also feature tickets to attractions throughout Lancaster County, including Sight and Sound Theatres, Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre and Barnstormers' games.

"For me, it feels like a big family reunion every year," said Raeanne Nixon, executive director of Solid Rock Youth Ministries. "I love seeing everyone come together and connect with each other, and it's neat to see people's heart for the ministry."

The proceeds from the event will help Solid Rock Youth Ministries cover expenses for its many programs, which the organization offers to the community at no cost. Solid Rock hosts Christian programming for children of all ages, including after-school programs at local elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. The ministry also offers events and activities for homeschooled students. Although the programs often incorporate a snack, a game and a Bible lesson, Solid Rock offers different activities to suit each age group.

As Solid Rock Youth Ministries has grown over the years, Nixon and members of the board have searched for a new location with more space. The organization is currently in the fundraising stage to renovate a facility in Quarryville, and multiple local churches have offered to host its programs in the interim. "We're really thankful for the support of our churches right now," Nixon said. "They've really helped us out in so many different ways."
