GEARS plans programs

GEARS will offer activities to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person cost, with a discounted rate for residents. To register or for more information, visit http://www.getintogears.org or call 717-367-0355.

Pound: Plugged and Unplugged, for people age 14 and up, will be held on Tuesdays, March 19 to May 14, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. Each session will consist of 30 minutes of Pound followed by 15 minutes of Pound Unplugged, a calmer version of Pound that includes rhythmic breathing and meditation. During Pound, participants will use Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks designed for exercise. The last class of each month will be a glow-in-the-dark session. Attendees should bring a water bottle and towel.

People age 14 and up may attend Cycle Strong on Saturdays, March 30 to May 25, from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at the Community Place on Washington, 105 E. Washington St., Elizabethtown. Attendees should bring water and a towel, as well as two small hand weights if they would like to add upper-body strength work.

Feel Good Yoga, for people age 14 and older of all fitness levels, will be offered from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, March 25 to May 20, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays, March 28 to May 23, at Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel, 1244 Bainbridge Road, Elizabethtown. People may attend on one or both days of the week, and there is a discount for those who attend both days. Participants should bring a yoga mat and yoga block.

Chair Yoga will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, March 28 to May 23, at the Fighting Dragons. Using the support of a chair, participants will perform the movements in a seated or standing position. The class is for people age 14 and up.

GEARS will offer the Summer Youth Program from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays to Fridays from June 17 to Aug. 9 at Fuhrman Park in East Donegal Township, Elizabethtown Community Park and West Donegal Township Municipal Park. There will be no session on Thursday, July 4. The program will include sports, games, arts and crafts and nature activities.

GEARS will also administer a playground site at War Memorial Park in Marietta.

In addition to registering by phone or at the aforementioned website, people may visit the GEARS office, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Payment is due at registration. Scholarships are available for children based on financial need; for more details, contact the GEARS office.
