Advanced Tree Climbing School planned

Penn State Extension will offer a hands-on Advanced Tree Climbing School from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday to Wednesday, April 8 to 10, at Long's Park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Participants will learn various methods of tree ascension and techniques for limb walking.

It is designed for arborists with at least 18 months of tree climbing experience, preferably in a work environment. Attendees must have experience or knowledge in several skills, including the ability to perform a thorough gear inspection, demonstrate a full tree assessment, properly tie a variety of climbing hitches, and comfortably perform limb walking up to 15 feet from the trunk.

Candidates also must bring all personal protective equipment and climbing equipment. This equipment must meet all American National Standards Institute standards and manufacturer's recommendations. Instructors will conduct a thorough gear inspection on the first day. Any equipment that does not pass the inspection will not be allowed.
