Lancaster Catholic High School plans concerts

Lancaster Catholic High School (LCHS) Fine & Performing Arts Department has announced two events in its LCHS Community Outreach Concert and Lecture Series.

A concert titled "A Fresh Field of Music" will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke St., Lancaster. Selections will include the U.S. premiere of Richard Field's "Suite for Violin and Piano," Beethoven's "Spring" Sonata, and original works by pianist Frances Veri, pianist Maria Corley, and spoken word artist Amanda Kemp. In addition to Veri, Corley, and Kemp, the performers will be violinist Michael Jamanis and vocalist Theresa Thomasen.

The Big Big Jazz Band Inc. will perform on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center at St. Peter Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia. This full big band ensemble was formed in 1968 and is based in central Pennsylvania. The concert will feature LCHS alumni Al Schulz, Class of 1956; Carole Bitts, Class of 1958; and Mary Ann Garrett, Class of 1968. Bitts is also the choir director at St. Peter.

No reservations or tickets are needed for these events, and admission is free. Donations of various items will be accepted for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society's community service charity project.
