Cross-country program sets Farmer's 5K

The Garden Spot High School cross-country team and booster club will host the 19th annual Farmer's 5K at New Holland Park on East Jackson Street on Saturday, April 27. All registration fees and business sponsorships will provide financial support to the cross-country team. Runners of all levels are welcome.

Race day registration and packet pickup for preregistered runners will take place from 7 to 8:15 a.m. The 5K race will start at 8:30 a.m., and the kids' half-mile fun run for those age 12 and under will start after the 5K race.

For the 5K, awards will be given to the top three male and female runners. Age group awards will go to the top three runners in the following age categories: 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over.

For those who register on the day of the race, T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

Preregistration is not available for the kids' run; children may register on event day. A parent or guardian must sign the entry form. Parents are encouraged to run along with their children. Medals will be given to the top boy and girl age 8 and under, and 9 to 12 years old. Each participant will receive a ribbon.

Runners must be present to receive their awards.

Volunteers will direct attendees to parking areas within the park. Restrooms are located in the main building on the south side of Jackson Street as well as the bathroom house located at the finish line.
