Library plans April activities

The Friends of the Lititz Public Library will host a book sale on Thursday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A bag sale will begin on April 6 at noon. The sale will include adult fiction, nonfiction, children's books, and DVDs. An individually priced selection of books, including those of higher quality and those related to special topics, will be available. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the library.

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Knitting Club, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, April 1 and 15, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, April 30, at 6 p.m.; Lititz Game Club, for players age 10 and older, on Wednesdays, April 3 and 17, at 4:30 p.m.; Literary Travelers Book Club on April 5 at 10:30 a.m.; Beginner Tai Chi Easy on Tuesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, April 10 and 24, at 12:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on April 10 at 6 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on April 10 at 6:30 p.m.; Lititz Garden Club on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m.; Writing Club on April 15 at 1 p.m.; Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m.; Adult Coloring Club on April 30 at 2 p.m.; and Lititz Art Association on April 30 at 6 p.m.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on Tuesdays, April 2 and 16, at 2 p.m.

In conjunction with the Warwick School District elementary schools' One School, One Book program, the library will offer a Community Read for young adults and adults. The library has copies of the young adult novel "Where You See Yourself" and the adult nonfiction book "Sitting Pretty" to borrow while supplies last. Community members may read the books in March, and the library will host community events on Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 20, from 10:30 a.m. to noon to discuss the broader themes of these books as well as the experience of reading as a community.

The Exploring Growing Together Discussion Forum will be offered on Thursdays, April 11 and 25, at 11 a.m. Books, articles, and videos are used to facilitate discussion.

The Genealogy Club will offer "Finding Females: Research Strategies to Discover More About Women in Family History" on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn why females can be challenging to research and receive a step-by-step plan to uncover more information about the women in their family tree.

A Look at Libraries: Freedom to Read will take place on Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. It will answer the questions "Have libraries always been bastions of intellectual freedom?" and "What are the foundations on which the freedom to read is built?"

The BYOB Book Club will meet on April 25 at 2 p.m. Attendees should bring a book they are currently reading.

Bad Art Night, a freestyle craft event for adults and teens, will be held on April 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The library will provide craft and art materials, and a prize will be awarded to the attendee who creates the worst art.

Accessible Yoga with Black Cat Yoga will occur on Friday, April 26, at 10 a.m. People of all abilities are welcome.

The library's spring StoryWalk is "Little Owl's Day" by Divya Srinivasan. The StoryWalk begins to the right of the library entrance and moves counterclockwise around the library.

The library will host indoor story times for children ages 6 months to 5 years between Monday, April 8, and Thursday, May 16. More details are available at the aforementioned website.

Backyard Story Times will be held in the library's backyard on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. from April 10 to Wednesday, May 29, weather permitting. Registration is required weekly. People of all ages are welcome, and they should bring a blanket or chairs.

During the Paws to Read program on Saturdays, April 13 and 27, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children can read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Cruise Into Kindergarten will meet on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. Cruise Into Kindergarten is geared to children ages 3 to 6 and is based on the national Every Child Ready to Read program. After hearing a story, children and caregivers will visit stations intended to help with skills that children need to start school.
