Annual event to aid food pantry

The ninth annual Hummelstown Hunger Run, offering a 5K run or walk and a 5-mile run, will be held on Saturday, May 11, with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. The race/walk will start at 10 a.m. at Schaffner Park, Poplar Avenue and Water Street, Hummelstown. Proceeds will benefit the Hummelstown Food Pantry. Pets and strollers are permitted.

All registrants will receive a gift bag, and race T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by Tuesday, April 23. Chick's Tavern and Rubber Soul Brewing Co. will provide lunch, including a pulled pork sandwich and chips, and Sweet Dawgs Frozen Desserts will hand out sweet treats to participants and volunteers.

Registrants and volunteers who bring a nonperishable food item for the collection bin will be entered into a drawing for one of the many gift certificates provided by local sponsors.

First- through third-place male and female finishers will receive cash prizes and medals. Winner medals and a selection from the prize table will be awarded to the first and second male and female finishers in each age group, as well as the first finisher pushing a stroller and the first-place finishers participating with a dog in each race.
