Arbor Day program slated

The Columbia Borough Shade Tree Commission, the Columbia Tree Society, and the Columbia Park Rangers will sponsor the 32nd annual Arbor Day program on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia. The event will take place rain or shine.

Columbia Borough manager Mark Stivers will serve as master of ceremonies, and Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from Troop and Pack 35 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The program will also include a proclamation by Columbia Borough Mayor Leo Lutz, remarks by Columbia Borough Council president Heather Zink, recognition of the coloring and photography contest winners, the presentation of Tree Society certificates and awards, and recognition of memorial tree plantings. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of Forestry will present the Tree City USA Award. Additionally, the Columbia High School concert choir will provide music, Columbia High School senior Alexandria Gamby will recite "Trees," and Jeffrey Jr. and Carolyn McMillen will offer the recessional.
