Tree planting to memorialize Lillian Hill

A tree will be planted in Marietta in memory of Lillian Hill, a well-known citizen who was active in the community. Friends and family members will gather to pay tribute at 7 p.m. on Arbor Day, April 26, at the tree planting site on the property of Caitlyn and Ian Clayton, located at the corner of North Waterford Avenue and West Market Street. Remarks will be shared, and a memorial plaque will be unveiled. Anyone who would like to make informal remarks is welcome to attend.

Hill was an active member of the Marietta Borough Shade Tree Commission, so planting a tree in her memory seemed like a fitting tribute. Hill also played a role in the establishment of the Susquehanna Waldorf School, and she restored a Front Street house and garden, which she opened for several candlelight and garden tours. Shortly before her death, she was elected to a seat on the borough council.
