On Saturday, May 18, the parking lot at Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church will be full of activity. The church, located at 404 Hellam St., will host its annual Spring Fling beginning at 8 a.m.

The event will feature a rummage sale, a plant sale and lots of food, said Donna Ream, a member of the Spring Fling committee.

"The food is always good, and everybody eats well," she said. "We have homemade baked goods and candy. We have hot dogs, hamburgers and sausage sandwiches with all the trimmings. We have chicken corn soup."

Members of the church will set up stands with yard sale items, including clothing and accessories, and people in the community are encouraged to contact the church to rent a space for their own yard sale table.

"Something we're doing this year that we've never done before is each of the stands from the church will put together a basket for a silent auction," Ream shared. "When people visit the stand, they can put in a chance to win it."

Although the food is good and the rummage sale features a lot of variety, the plant sale is the biggest moneymaker for the church, Ream noted. It will feature a variety of plants, focusing on perennials, along with gently used lawn ornaments and garden decor.

Children's activities will be planned during Spring Fling to keep kids occupied while parents shop.

Proceeds from the event will be used for improvement projects around the church and for the church's general fund, Ream said. It takes a team of volunteers to organize Spring Fling, and other members of the committee include Phil Lehman, Barbara Stoner and Bonnie Shaffer.

Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church is home to Phoebe's Closet, a community clothing bank, as well as the Eastern York Food Pantry. The church holds services on Sundays at 9 a.m. Vacation Bible school will take place this summer in partnership with Faith United Methodist Church in Hallam.
