Veritas Community posts sermon series

The Veritas Community will launch a new sermon series titled "????" on Sunday, June 2. The congregation gathers every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on the second floor of HUB 450, 450 N. Prince St. Lancaster. The event begins with 15 minutes of fellowship time.

In the Bible's accounts of Jesus' three-year earthly ministry, Jesus asked 307 questions, was asked 183, and only directly answered three of the questions he was asked. In preparation for the sermon series, leaders at the Veritas Community polled their congregation to find out what questions attendees wanted to explore.

The questions will include "If someone lives a good life full of love, grace, and kingdom values, but has never heard of Jesus, what happens to them when they die?" based on Romans 2:12-16 on June 2; "What does it mean in today's political climate and world situation to, according to Psalm 122:6, 'Pray for the peace of Jerusalem?'" based on Psalm 122:6-9 and Joshua 5:13-15 on June 9; and "Tongues: What are they?" based on Acts 2:1-4 and 1 Corinthians 14:1-25 on June 16.

On June 23 and 30, the sermons will focus on atonement theories. The first week will feature the following topics and Scriptures: penal substitutionary atonement theory, Romans 3:21-26; ransom atonement theory, Matthew 20:20-28; and moral influence atonement theory, 1 Peter 2:22. The second week will feature the following topics and Scriptures: Christus victor, Colossians 1:13-14 and 2:13-15; satisfaction atonement theory, Hebrews 9:22; and scapegoat atonement theory, Acts 2:22-36.
