LancasterHistory sets program, dinner

LancasterHistory will hold its next History Happy Hour on Tuesday, June 4, at Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse, 112 N. Water St., Lancaster. Doors and the bar will open at 5:30 p.m., and the program will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The focus will be on the Prohibition-era story of Max Hassel, a bootlegger based in Reading and operating in Lancaster. As part of his clandestine operation, Hassel had a half-mile-long hose run from the Rieker Star Brewery on King Street to an empty warehouse on Water Street. This location now houses Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse.

The fee includes program entry, light snacks, and one complimentary beverage. Additional drinks and merchandise are not included. Zoetropolis' kitchen will be closed during the event.

To purchase tickets, visit http://www.lancasterhistory.org or call 717-392-4633. This event is recommended for people age 18 and over, and attendees must be at least age 21 to obtain alcoholic beverages.

The event will celebrate LancasterHistory's past successes and look to the future while raising funds to benefit the education and public programs of LancasterHistory.

The event will commence with a cocktail reception in the Garden Courtyard at 6 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. in the Grande Salon. Thomas R. Ryan, president and CEO of LancasterHistory, will address attendees at 8 p.m. The event will also feature a live five-item auction, hosted by auctioneer Jessica Shaub. The auction will feature unique history-themed experiences and will raise additional funds for programs offered by LancasterHistory.
