Historical society plans meeting

Elizabethtown Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at 57 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown.

Local historian Robert Lescallette will present "Maytown's Wonder: Simon Cameron." Lescallette's interest in Cameron was spurred by living in a parsonage that was given to a church by Cameron in 1881. Lescallette grew up in Harrisburg, which also has Cameron Street, the Cameron mansions, the Cameron Parkway, and other points of interests with this name. Lescallette has given a lecture on Cameron to the Dauphin County Historical Society.

Lescallette co-founded the Maytown Historical Society and wrote the town's history. He organized St. John's Lutheran Church's archives and conducted countless tours of the town, the church, and the cemetery.

Admission is free. For more information, call 717-361-9382 or email info@etownhistory.com. Details about the historical society are available at https://etownhistory.com.
