Boehm's Chapel Society posts Heritage Sunday

Crows and Methodist Preachers: A Look at Early Circuit Riders" will be the subject of the Boehm's Chapel Society's annual Heritage Sunday service. The event will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, in the chapel at Boehm's United Methodist Church (UMC), 13 W. Boehms Road, Willow Street.

The Rev. Joe DiPaolo, lead pastor of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, will be the speaker. The event will include a worship service, which will be followed by a hayride to the original farmstead of Martin and Eva Boehm, weather permitting.

The Methodist circuit rider is a figure from early America who had a significant role in the growth of Christianity in the nation. Passionate about their message of salvation, these preachers often followed the wagon tracks to new settlements on the frontier. They established churches in villages and hamlets across the land and helped shape the culture of the country. DiPaolo's slideshow presentation will include images and stories about local personalities.

DiPaolo, a member of the Boehm's Chapel board, was president of the United Methodist Church - Eastern Pennsylvania Conference's historical society for 20 years. He has published several books and articles on local and national Methodist history.

The chapel board will also hold a business meeting at 3 p.m. in the chapel.

The public is invited to both the Heritage Sunday service and the business meeting.

The chapel was built in 1791 and is named for the Boehm family. It was restored and rededicated in 1991.
