Historical society plans July Fourth activities

The Historical Society of Dauphin County, 219 S. Front St., Harrisburg, will celebrate Independence Day with its 14th annual public reading of the Declaration of Independence on Thursday, July 4, from the porch of the John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion. The Declaration will be read by re-enactor David Biser portraying John Harris Jr. Readings will take place at 10 a.m. and noon, with no fee.

Tours of the Harris-Cameron Mansion will be offered at 11 a.m., between the readings, for a fee. Free admission will be granted to Historical Society of Dauphin County members and children age 6 and under as well as police and fire personnel, other first responders and military members and their families.

Additionally, a used book sale will be located inside the mansion.
