Trip to Cairnwood Estate planned

The Maytown Historical Society will sponsor a bus trip on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The bus will leave Maytown's Fuhrman Park on Rock Point Road at 8 a.m. and return at 6 p.m.

Participants will visit the Cairnwood Estate and tour the Glencairn Museum, the Cairnwood Gardens, and the Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Lunch will be an Italian buffet at Maggio's in Southampton.

Built by John Pitcairn, a co-founder of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, the Cairnwood Estate is located 16 miles outside Philadelphia on the Bryn Athyn College campus. The estate was designed by Carrere and Hastings in the Beaux-Arts style, and its meticulous decorative elements blend influences from classical Greek and Roman architecture with French Renaissance ideas. The home has been restored to its original 1895 appearance.

The cost includes motorcoach transportation, all tour admissions, lunch, and the bus driver's tip. To purchase tickets by Saturday, Aug. 31, contact Janie Garber at 717-426-3689 or jgarber416@gmail.com.
