Master Gardeners set open house at park

The York County Master Gardeners will hold an open house at John Rudy Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees may take a self-guided garden tour, and Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions along the way. Attendees will be able to view the park's 50 display gardens, including herb, perennial, annual, pollinator flower, and fruit gardens, as well as a wildlife shrub bed.

The event will also feature a soil and plant clinic; workshops and demonstrations, including composting demonstration; a tomato tasting; books and supplies for sale; a farmers market; York County businesses and service providers; speakers; and live music, including bluegrass and folk music. Visitors may learn about rain barrels, growing garlic, and beekeeping. They may take home a tussie mussie. The York Revolution's mascot, DownTown, will be present, and food trucks will be on-site to offer lunch foods, ice cream, and more. For kids, the event will offer vendors, games, crafts, tours, and more.

The vegetable gardens are a partnership with the York County Probation Department. Typically, each year, 6,000 pounds of garden fruits and vegetables are donated to the York County Food Bank and Catholic Harvest Pantry.

All sales and donations at the open house will support the work of the garden.
