Family fun planned at Rally Day

Head out to Glossbrenner United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 15, and expect the unexpected.

"This is not an ordinary church service," shared Jessica Rockey, children and youth director, speaking about the church's Rally Day event. "We like to host a service like this once a year to attract a new audience and to show everyone church is actually a lot of fun! I often tell my youth being a Christian is far from boring and the most exciting journey you can be on is one with Jesus."

Glossbrenner will hold its Rally Day event at the church, 713 Church St., Mount Joy, beginning at 10 a.m.

Chris Ivey will provide entertainment, returning to the church after appearing at the event two years ago.

"Last time Chris joined us two years ago, he did a message while entertaining with his many various skills during a 'Will you rust or will you trust?' message," Rockey recalled of the juggler. "He says he has a brand-new message for us and a show that will offer an encouraging hope for all ages. You will have to come out to see what Chris has to say and watch his amazing entertaining skills in person."

Following Ivey's performance, a spaghetti dinner will be held in the church's fellowship hall. The space is now handicapped-accessible as the church has installed a stair lift, Rockey said.

Rally Day will offer family-friendly entertainment as well as an opportunity to meet pastor Heather Hammel, who came on board in July.

"(She) has been a breath of fresh air with new visions for our church," Rockey remarked. "She offers a very compassionate, welcoming environment to anyone who walks through our doors. She is excited to host more opportunities for people in our community to feel welcomed here and encounter the life-changing power of Jesus here at Glossbrenner."

The Rally Day service holds several purposes, Rockey said. "This is a kickoff to our kid and young adult ministry season. We host a variety of Sunday schools at our church for all ages," she explained. "It's a great place to connect with others, be able to ask the tough questions, share in our doubts and as always go to God's Word for answers and encouragement together."

It also offers an opportunity for members of the church to connect with the wider community.

"Children and young adults are very important in our church family, and we want people in the community to know they can find support and love anytime they walk through our doors," she shared. "Of course, it's always great to get new church members, but we are more about spreading the light and love of Jesus into the community than filling the pews every Sunday."

Reservations for the spaghetti dinner are appreciated and may be made by contacting Rockey at jrockey@glossbrenner.net, but people are also welcome to just show up on the date.
