Achenbach's Pastries to mark 70th anniversary

Since 1954, Achenbach's Pastries, 375 E. Main St., Leola, has provided homestyle pastry products to generations of customers in the Lancaster area. The bakery is known for its long Johns, sticky buns, vanilla and pecan rings, pies and cakes.

Achenbach's Pastries, with a leadership team composed of owners David Burkholder, Sharon Redcay and Andrew Orrs, still bakes with fresh ingredients and does not use typical additives like preservatives, humectants and synthetic gums.

The made-from-scratch products are available at the bakery in Leola, located 10 miles east of Lancaster on Route 23. The baked goods are also available at various retail locations, and some of the popular items are even available for shipping.

To celebrate Achenbach's anniversary, Johnny the Long John will make a special appearance on Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 8 a.m.
