Community Cupboard receives grant

The Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown, a program of United Churches Elizabethtown Area (UCEA), recently received a $25,000 Community Hunger Mapping Bold Goal Grant. Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's Bold Goal Grants program awards money to food pantries who are addressing some of the needs found in the 2023 Community Hunger Mapping Project.

The Community Cupboard recognized a need for a display cooler so that it could provide additional perishable items like meats and dairy products. Renovations of sorting and storage space would help cupboard volunteers to adequately handle donated food items. Additionally, a Spanish-speaking interpreter was needed to help Spanish-speaking clients. The grant funds will address these needs.

Located at Community Place on Washington, 61 E. Washington St., Elizabethtown, the Community Cupboard is a food choice pantry. Community members living in the Elizabethtown Area School District and meeting the United States Department of Agriculture income eligibility requirements are eligible to shop for food items for their families once a month with an appointment.

To make an appointment, call 717-361-8149, choose option 1 and leave a message. All of the food in the cupboard is donated from the community. All but the part-time director of the cupboard are volunteers. In 2023, the cupboard served 376 households.
