Arts on the Square to feature organist

Arts on the Square will present German-born concert organist Felix Hell on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. at Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg.

When he was 14 years old, Hell presented a recital at Market Square Church for a standing-room-only audience. Now age 39, he is returning to play the city's newest pipe organ, Orgues Letourneau Opus 136, the J. Nedra Schilling Organ, built in 2019.

A native of Germany, Hell is a globally recognized, well-sought-after concert organist. He has been featured as a recitalist and concerto soloist in more than 1,000 concerts throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The American Organist, a monthly magazine, noted that he "sets standards that older and honored players would struggle to equal."

Hell has been an organ soloist with many world-renowned symphony orchestras. He has released 13 CDs, exploring the depth and breadth of organ music, bringing both historical reverence and innovative interpretation to the listener. He is known for his diverse and innovative programming, drawing upon a repertoire encompassing five centuries, and he frequently collaborates with contemporary composers.

Following the concert, audience members will be invited to visit the Arts on the Square Gallery in Geneva Hall on Level 4 of the church to see the newly installed exhibit "An Eclectic Mix: Works by Barbara Passeri-Warfel."

A freewill offering will be received. Complimentary parking in the adjacent Market Square Garage will be made available by the church for this event. Concert attendees may enter the church from Level 1 of the parking garage or through the event entrance on Second Street. The church is entirely accessible to all.
