Event to benefit Limeville's Blessings

Limeville Church, 5783 Limeville Road, Gap, will host a fall craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also featured will be a silent auction and a sale of food items.

The craft fair will be set up downstairs in the church's fellowship hall. Crafts for sale will include leather jewelry and leather crafts, custom iced coffee cups and crocheted items. "Someone will sell wreaths, and we have (several) crochet vendors who make different things," said congregation member Melanie Shivery, who is organizing the event along with Danae Baldwin. "There will be variety of handmade gifts."

Silent auction items, which have been donated by local businesses, will include tickets to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Hands-on House in Lancaster, Dutch Lanes in Ephrata and the Turkey Hill Experience in Lancaster. "The majority of crafters also donate items for the silent auction," noted Shivery.

The silent auction will close at 1 p.m. Bidders do not have to be present to win.

Food items will include hot dogs and beef barbecue. Takeouts will be available. "We are having iced coffee and a hot chocolate bar," Shivery added.

All proceeds from the craft fair will support the church's children's ministry and the Limeville's Blessings store, which offers free clothing, household items, children's toys, toiletries and more to people in need. The store, which Shivery operates, opened at the church in July of 2022. Anyone in need of assistance is welcome to visit the store, and no proof of income or residency is required. Limeville's Blessings is currently open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"The total (number of) families helped this year is 704, which brings our (total) number up to 1,807 since opening," Shivery reported.

People are permitted to visit the store to collect free items once per month. Donations of gently used clothing, shoes, bedding, blankets and small kitchen appliances are also accepted during store hours. Especially needed are children's clothing sizes preemie through 14/16.

"We are collecting new children's toys for our annual toy giveaway. This will be my second year doing it," said Shivery, noting that parents will be given one ticket per child to redeem for a free toy. "People can register with how many children they have. We set up the fellowship hall as a toy store. We have a wrapping station so they can wrap the toys before they go home, and we give them big black trash bags (to hide the gifts). The parents have a good time."
