Holiday vendor village will highlight local businesses, nonprofits

Britain Hill Venue & Vineyard, 790 Little Britain Road North, Quarryville, will host its annual holiday vendor village from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30. The two-day event will feature a variety of local vendors and handmade artisans, and it will serve as a fundraiser for local nonprofits Solanco Neighborhood Ministries and Pass the Torch for Veterans.

On Nov. 29, multiple vendors will operate stands inside the venue to sell items such as holiday arrangements, handmade goods, soaps, books, candles, artworks and decorations. Participating vendors will include Landis Handmade, Lemongrass & Honey Co., Kustom Kut, Aunt B's Bizarre Bazaar, Lis' Lavish Nails and Doodle and Dazzle, among several others.

On Nov. 30, the event will expand to feature vendors both inside the venue and in a heated tent outdoors. Refreshments will be available to purchase from food truck On The Roll. Representatives from Pass the Torch for Veterans will attend the second day of the event to share information about the organization and its mission. Various prize drawings will take place on both days of the event, and prizes will include items from each participating vendor.

A portion of the proceeds from both days of the holiday vendor village will benefit Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, a nonprofit that operates a food bank in Quarryville. The organization also offers a variety of community outreach programs, including financial assistance initiatives, job training events and school supply drives.

Although the annual holiday event typically benefits Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, Britain Hill Venue & Vineyard owner Debbie Helm said she likes to find an additional organization to benefit local veterans. This year, Helm decided to support Pass the Torch for Veterans, a nonprofit that seeks to support veterans through community programs, events and advocacy throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware. In recent years, the holiday vendor village has supported organizations such as Warriors on the Water Ltd. and Wreaths Across America.

Helm began hosting the annual holiday shopping event to highlight local businesses for Small Business Saturday. This year, the event has expanded to include two days of shopping for Black Friday.

"Running a small business is hard. Many of the perks are overshadowed by the incredible strain that it puts on our personal lives," Helm said. "We wear many job titles, but in the end we're just regular people with hectic lives. When we patronize our local small businesses, the majority of that money stays within the community." Helm added that she hopes the holiday shopping village will continue to strengthen the community and to give exposure to new businesses in the area.

In addition to the vendor village, Britain Hill Venue & Winery will host several holiday events in November and December. The winery's annual Christmas shopping boutique opened on Nov. 13, and it will highlight various local artisans until Christmas Day. Britain Hill Venue & Winery will also host a free community choir concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. A Billy Joel tribute concert will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the venue; proceeds will benefit the Quarryville Fire Department and Robert Fulton Volunteer Fire Company.
