THE CHRISTMAS SURPRISE

I was so excited! It was the night before Christmas. I could not think of anything to put on my Christmas list. A doll or a dress I thought? No, my mama made me those things last year. When it was night time I said, “I cannot think of anything for my list.” The next morning, I woke up and ran downstairs. I was scared and excited! I did not know what my Ma and Pa had gotten me! I saw Mama in the kitchen. I asked her what we were having for breakfast.

“We are having toast and berries.” All of a sudden I realized Papa wasn’t here.

“Where is Papa?’’ I asked, “He is outside getting firewood and your present.’’ Answered Mama. I wondered what the present was. All at the same time, Papa came walking in with a fluffy gray puppy!

“Is that my present Pa?’’ I asked “Yes, it is.” He said. I was so happy.

“Ma, Pa, what should I name him?’’ I asked. “How about Smokey?’’ Said Pa. “Or Oliver?’’ Said Ma. “Hmm, I like the sound of Smokey.

The next day we went to the store to get Smokey a few toys.
