Winey named Coach of the Year

The Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association (PSCA) recently presented the 2024 W. Gene Davis Memorial Award for the Coach of the Year in the A Male classification to Fred Winey, head coach of the Lancaster Mennonite High School varsity boys' soccer team.

Each year, the PSAC honors one of its members as Coach of the Year in each high school classification. To win this accolade, a coach must demonstrate knowledge of the game through the understanding of the rules and have developed a sound coaching philosophy. He or she must have established a good rapport with the team, officials, and other coaches, and his or her conduct, as well as the conduct of the team, must represent the highest ideals of the game. The chosen coach must also have exhibited involvement outside the high school program and be recognized by fellow coaches.

During the 2024 season, Winey celebrated his 300th career victory, and his team won the state championship. In addition, Winey has been named United Soccer Coaches East Region Coach of the Year. Winey is an alumnus of Lancaster Mennonite.
