Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony set

The Donegal Athletic Hall of Fame will induct a new class on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Donegal High School, 1025 Koser Road, Mount Joy, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The class will include coach Bill Loercher; Mark Sadler, Class of 1988; Steph Smith, Class of 1996; Seth Hershey, Class of 2009; Mackenzie Allessie, Class of 2019; and the 1972 boys' tennis team.

Loercher was a longtime coach of Donegal tennis, which included coaching the 1972 county championship team. He also served the district as a teacher and administrator throughout his entire coaching career.

Sadler was an accomplished football and baseball player, leading the Indians to championship seasons in both sports his senior season.

Smith was a 1,000-point scorer in girls' basketball, and Hershey was a 1,000-point scorer in boys' basketball.

Allessie finished her career with two state championships in field hockey as well as becoming the all-time leading scorer in the nation.

The 1972 boys' tennis team put together an undefeated campaign in winning the Lancaster County Championship.

After the ceremony, a celebration will be held at the Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy. The public is invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Donegal Athletic Club.

The Donegal Athletic Club is a nonprofit organization that exists to support and enhance the athletic experience for Donegal students. It is celebrating its 15th year supporting the Donegal School District and has raised and donated more than $1 million to the athletic programs at Donegal.
