GEARS plans youth sports programs

An After-School Basketball Skills Clinic will be offered for girls and boys in grades five through eight. The clinic will take place from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 11 to April 15, in the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. Each day's activities will incorporate skill stations, games, and game play in three-versus-three and five-versus-five settings. Ball handling, shooting fundamentals, dribble moves, moving without the ball, and offensive footwork will be stressed.

A Volleyball Skills Program, for children in grades five through eight, will be held on Tuesdays, March 11 to April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym at the Bear Creek School. Coaches will teach the fundamentals of volleyball using skill-specific drills as well as games. This is an instructional-only program that focuses on player development.

Youths interested in field hockey may attend an Indoor Field Hockey Clinic on Saturdays, March 8 to 29, in the gym at the Elizabethtown Area Middle School, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. The program will run from 10 to 11 a.m. for children in kindergarten through second grade and 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for children in grades three through six. Participants will learn the basics of field hockey through a variety of drills, fun competitions, and small games. Hockey sticks and balls will be available for use. Shin guards are recommended. The fee includes a T-shirt and mouthguard.
