Student-athlete receives recognition

The Optimist Club of Elizabethtown has announced that its Student-Athlete of the Month for December is Olivia Martin. Student-athletes are nominated by their athletic coaches, and the winners are selected by the Optimist Club. Criteria may include teamwork, attitude, work ethic, helping others to excel and leadership qualities. Winners receive a certificate of accomplishment and a cash prize. In addition, they and their parents or guardians are invited to a recognition dinner.

Olivia has been included on the honor roll all four years of high school. She has played basketball since third grade and has been a member of the Elizabethtown school team since seventh grade, when she moved to the area from West Virginia. She has been a member of the girls' varsity basketball team for three years.

She was recognized for her role as a positive team player along with her optimism and leadership, which are an inspiration to her teammates and others.

In addition to playing basketball, Olivia is a member of the Paws and Think Club. After graduation, she plans to attend college to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
