Church sets handbell concert

Wayside Presbyterian Church, 600 Stony Battery Road, Landisville, will hold a bell concert by soloist Ron Bellamy, accompanied by his wife, Linda Young Lorgus, on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. The event is organized by Wayside's bell choir.

Bellamy began ringing handbells in 1979 and has been a performer and clinician for Handbell Exploration, the Handbell Musicians of America (HMA), and Solo/Ensemble Extravaganza (SEE). He is the artistic director and a former member of the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble and is the handbell director at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. He was the solo ringing clinician at the 2024 HMA National Seminar, and he has directed the Bucknell University Rooke Chapel Ringers and conducted several massed ringing festivals, including conducting the Toms River Handbell Festival and Virginia Bronze's Ring in Spring Festival in 2024. A graduate of the University of Scranton and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, his full-time employment is in the field of accounting and finance.

Lorgus recently retired after 40 years as an organist, choir director and handbell director. Her church and handbell experience led to her current position as the church music and handbell editor at the sheet music distributor J.W. Pepper Inc. As an organist, she has performed at Longwood Gardens. As a handbell director, she has led choirs that performed at Disney World; Williamsburg, Va.; and area venues such as Longwood Gardens. She is an active accompanist in Pennsylvania and surrounding states, playing for the Brandywine Valley Chorale, the West Chester University Wells School of Music, several local high schools and vocal studios, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Lorgus was a member of both Bell Amis and the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble - where she met Bellamy - and she worked at Schulmerich Carillons, arranging and recording carillon music heard from bell towers.

Refreshments will be served. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be received for Bellamy and Lorgus' bell ministry.
