Christiana library Friends to host spring tea

The Friends of the Moores Memorial Library will present a "Hop'n Into Spring" tea party on Saturday, March 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event, which will feature afternoon tea fare, will take place at Christiana Fire Company, 214 S. Bridge St., Christiana.

Although it is not required, attendees are encouraged to dress in tea attire, which includes hats or fascinators, which are decorative headpieces that are attached to the head with a hair clip or comb. A limited number of fascinators will be available for purchase at the event.

The tea is a popular annual event, and each year has its own unique theme. Last year's tea was themed "Welcome Spring." Previous themes have included "Downton Abbey" and "Gone With the Wind."

During the event, tea will be served in authentic teacups with saucers. "We will have an assortment of sweets and savories. We will have scones, finger sandwiches and desserts," said Friends vice president Jeannette Kolb. "The tables will be all set when people come in."

There will also be several photo-op backgrounds, and new this year will be acoustic guitar music.

There will also be an opportunity for guests to win door prizes.

All proceeds from the tea will benefit the library.

A fee will be charged per person. Participants must be at least age 14 to attend.

Tickets are also available for purchase at the library, 9 W. Slokom Ave., Christiana. Cash, check and Venmo will be accepted for payment. Tickets must be purchased by Saturday, March 22. For more information or to reserve a ticket, call the library at 610-593-6683.

Volunteers with the Friends group, which maintains and runs the Read Moore Book Store in the lower level of the library, hold several special events each year, which raise funds for library programming. In addition to the tea, the Friends sponsor spring and fall book sales and a plant and flower sale in May.

The Friends reported that the spring book sale held on March 6 to 8 met its goal and raised enough funds to allow the library to host a program by Jesse Rothacker, The Reptile Guy, founder of Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary.
