Library posts activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The library offers various activities regularly. In April, these will include Music and Movement, for kids birth to age 6 with a parent or other caregiver on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.; Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion on Monday, April 7, at 2 p.m.; Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m.; and Lego Creation Club on Thursday, April 10, at 6 p.m.

The library will also offer Preschool Story Time, recommended for children ages 4 to 6, every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and Toddler Thursdays, recommended for children from birth to age 3, every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The April theme will be "Trees, Flowers, and Plants." Siblings are welcome to join in.

Teen Tuesdays will be held on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. The program will provide crafts, games, snacks, and more for tweens and teens. The upcoming dates and themes are April 8, STEM Lego Day; April 15, Research Day (Endangered Species); April 22, Social Issues (Energy Crisis); and April 29, Common Myths and Misconceptions Trivia.

Tech Tips for Seniors will be available on Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. Community members may bring a cell phone, tablet, or laptop to the library to receive assistance with technical problems. They may also learn how to use Libby to access free e-books and e-audiobooks with a library card, as well as how to optimize devices for those with low vision.

Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver may read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever during Read with Pepper the Dog! on April 5 at 2 p.m.

GIANT Mini Chef Program, for children ages 3 to 8, will take place on Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m. Charlotte Scheid, a dietician from GIANT Foods, will teach participants about healthy foods and lead them in making a healthy snack. Registration is required.

The library will host an Easter egg drop STEM Challenge on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. Using basic materials, participants will design and test a safety device to protect an egg when it is dropped from a high point. The workshop is best for elementary-age students, but people of all ages are invited to enjoy family fun.

A Lunch and Learn program will be available for homeschoolers on Friday, April 25, at noon. The program will be a Research Assistance Drop-in Day, beginning with a brief presentation and an introduction to the resources the library offers. Attendees may bring their lunch to eat during the presentation. Afterward, participants may receive personalized assistance from a librarian and gather books and other resources for a research paper or other school project. The library will provide beverages and healthy snacks. Walk-ins are welcome, but students may email adagostino@elancolibary.org with a brief description of their project by Friday, April 18, to help the library prepare.

The Friends of ELANCO Library's spring book sale will take place on April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of ELANCO Library.
