Young musicians to present recital

The Workshop for Young Performing Artists (WYPA) will present its spring recital on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. at the Bachman Center, 633 Community Way, Lancaster. WYPA is the student organization under the auspices of the Lancaster Musical Art Society, which is part of the National Federation of Music Clubs and Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs.

Established in the 1950s, WYPA is made up of teenagers studying upper-level classical music. Adult councilors with music degrees provide feedback and coaching on individual performances. The councilors are John Hamilton, Margaret Marsch, John Zielinski, and Dora Zlatkin.

The WYPA meets once a month from September through April, with public performances in December, April, and June. The students present solos or perform in small ensembles; they play the piano or other instruments, including voice.

The students scheduled to participate in the upcoming concert are Kaleb Lambert on piano and violin, Callum MacCloskey on cello, Issac Yen on piano, Iva Yen on piano and violin, and Christian Wienckoski on piano.

Admission is free. Donations will be accepted for scholarships to help young musicians to develop their skills. For further information, contact Marsch at margmarsch@gmail.com or Zielinski at jzvarious@gmail.com.
