David Leithmann presented a Music in the Schools event at Bucher Elementary School on March 25 to introduce young people to the various stringed instruments of the orchestra. The educational performance was one of 54 such events taking place in elementary schools throughout Lancaster County in March and April this year.

At the event, Leithmann was recognized for his more than 27 years serving the Susquehanna Valley through the Music in the Schools program, during which time he likely reached nearly 400,000 students.

The local Music in the Schools program was started more than 40 years ago as a joint venture of Local 294 of the American Federation of Musicians and the Women's Symphony Association of Lancaster. Music in the Schools is an initiative sponsored throughout the United States and Canada by the recording industry's Music Performance Trust Fund.
