Church sets community meal, grief workshops

Lititz Church of the Brethren (COB), 300 W. Orange St., will host a community meal on Wednesday, April 23. The meal will be served at 6 p.m., and a program will follow at 7 p.m.

The program, about creation care, will be presented by Isiah Perry, who attends Bright Side Baptist Church in Lancaster and is program director of its nonprofit arm's free summer STEM camps for youths funded by the Rotary Club of Lancaster and other partners.

Perry increasingly gears curricula at the camps to addressing environmental problems in the community. He noted that in the Bible, God commands Adam to care for the Earth. Bright Side Baptist Church, its green team, and its STEM programs are advocates in the community.

There is no charge, but donations will be accepted. No reservations are needed. The meal and program will be held in the Family Life Center, and attendees should use the entrance at the back of the church.

Additionally, Lititz COB will host two workshops on grief. The first program - "Grief and Mourning ... What's the Difference?" - will be held on Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The second workshop, "Aspects of Grief," will be offered on Sunday, May 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The workshops will explore how people experience grief physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and behaviorally. The programs will include time for discussion. A potluck meal will be held immediately after the April 27 session, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.

The presenter will be Michele DeRosa, a licensed funeral director since 1980. She is an experienced facilitator of grief support groups and an educator of children and adults on the topic of death.
