Egg hunts promise Easter fun

Along with the religious celebration of Easter, the holiday also includes a fun tradition - Easter egg hunts, where children scurry to collect plastic eggs, many of them filled with candy or prizes. Several local organizations have planned Easter egg hunts that are open to the community.

The Caernarvon Township Parks and Recreation Committee will hold an Easter egg hunt for people of all ages on Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at Friendship Park, 3287 North St., Morgantown. Children will be divided into different age groups to hunt for eggs, followed by the second annual adult hunt.

"We will have over 4,000 eggs, and we do have prize eggs," said  Erin McMullen, a member of the parks and recreation committee. "The Easter Bunny will also be available for pictures."

In the event of rain, the hunt will be held inside the township building, 3308 Main St., Morgantown. For more information, visit http://www.caernarvon.org or http://www.facebook.com/CaernarvonPandR.

Moving Communities to Christ (MCC) Church will hold an Easter egg hunt for children up to age 12 on April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at its Elverson campus, 4221 Main St.

"We will be filling around 30,000 eggs," said Jen Waldron, MCC preschool ministry director, noting that the event will also include crafts, face painting and games. "Everything is offered free to our community."

Friendship Fire Company No. 1, 3433 Hay Creek Road, Geigertown, will hold an Easter egg hunt on April 19 beginning at 1 p.m. The hunt will be divided into four age groups for children up to age 12. There will be special eggs with prizes. For more details, visit http://www.geigertownfireco.com.

Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines, 1710 Ridge Road (Route 23), Pottstown, will present a children's Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Some eggs will contain coupons for special prizes.

"We hide the eggs in the barn, so it's rain or shine," said Lynn Seeburger, a member of the Ryerss board of managers, adding that the Easter Bunny will also be on hand and available for photos. "The kids get so excited when they see the Easter Bunny."

The Ryerss gift shop will be open during the Easter egg hunt offering equine-related items; gift items; stuffed animals; and Ryerss apparel such as hats, T-shirts and hoodies. Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit the rescued and retired horses that reside at the farm.

Preregistration is required for the egg hunt, and there will be a fee charged per child. Attendance is limited to 35 children per age group, and there will be no registration on the day of the event. While the hunt for children ages 2 and 3 is filled, there are still openings for children ages 4 through 9.
