Band to present Afro-Caribbean music

The Arts at Millersville University will present Plena Libre on Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

Combining traditional Puerto Rican plena and bomba rhythms with jazz and other Afro-Caribbean styles, the 12-person group Plena Libre creates dance music that seeks to honor indigenous musical traditions while also embracing modern sounds. This multi-Grammy Award-nominated band's music features hand drumming, horns, and three-part vocal harmonies. The group has released 15 albums over its 30-year career.

Santina Huerta of Embodyment Wellness Studio in Lancaster will lead a salsa dancing activity in the Ware Center's Lyet Lobby at 6:15 p.m. free of charge. The youth dancers from Huerta's program will also perform a plena dance.
