Hempfield High School students Rilyn Shifflett, Katie Deitrich, Isabelle Hance, and Liliana Netzley, along with advisers Leah Blose and Teagan Travis, traveled to Seven Springs Mountain Resort to take part in the Pennsylvania Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference from March 31 to April 2. All four students competed in Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events. The students had spent months assembling professional projects and portfolios, and at the conference, they gave oral presentations to a panel of professionals who served as evaluators.

All four of the students received awards, bringing home one bronze medal, two silver medals, and a gold medal. In addition, Netzley and Hance qualified to participate at the national competition in Orlando, Fla., in July.
