Welcome Summer With a Community Celebration

How will you celebrate the longest day of the year? Head to Mount Joy for an event that will feature community and fun for people of all ages.

Summer Solstice will be held on Saturday, June 21, from noon to 5 p.m. along Main Street in Mount Joy. The festivities will be set up between South Market Street and Marietta Avenue.

"The Summer Solstice event is a welcoming space for the community to come together and have fun," said Collette Wagman, owner of Moon Raven Alley, who is organizing the event. "It's a family-friendly, festival-style event that celebrates arts, culture, music and local talent."

Wagman, who has a full committee of community members helping her with the event, said the festival promises to be a jam-packed afternoon.

"We'll have a variety of vendors, live entertainment, a children's parade, activities for kids and plenty for adults to enjoy too," she shared. "It's all about bringing people together, building community and kicking off the summer in a joyful, meaningful way." People who attend are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to support the local food bank. People who bring items will earn tickets to win various prizes donated by local businesses.

Kids are encouraged to dress in whimsical costumes and join the children's parade, which will start at 3 p.m. in the kids' area, located in front of the borough office. Adults are encouraged to dress in costume as well.

Entertainment, which will be set up near the clock tower, will include a mermaid, stilt walkers, a magician, bagpipes and hoop dancers. Maggie Bird will be on-site from noon to 1 p.m. Vendors will sell items like jewelry, candles, stained glass, artwork, plants, video games, hair tinsel, metal art and handmade Belgian chocolates.

Joining Wagman in planning the event are Jennifer Drake of The Hopeful Ladybug, Rod and Lisa Wilbert of Time After Time Clocks and Ladybug Crossing, Jen Angeles of 2FAB Fitness Studio, Dave Schell of Schell's Woodworking and Maria Roshon of Fractured Frog, along with Cynthia Clark, Nicole Harney, Michelle Hall, Ashley Schwebel and Heather Paltan.

This will be the first time an event like this is held in Mount Joy, but it will mirror other festivals in the area.

"The idea came about by a similar event in York that ended, and one of the vendors came into the shop and asked if Moon Raven Alley would consider doing something similar in Mount Joy," Wagman said. "Hosting an event like this is all about community and connection. The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year - it's a celebration of light, growth and new energy. What better way to honor that than by bringing people together for a fun, uplifting day that reminds us we're part of something bigger?"

She encourages people to check out the festival, whether they are interested in the vendors, the entertainment or anything else.

"Whether you're coming to shop, watch a show, enjoy the kids' activities or just soak in the vibe, there's something for everyone," she said. "It's a perfect chance to spend time with family, friends and neighbors while celebrating the start of summer together."

Above all, she emphasized that the festival will provide more than just entertainment.

"The summer solstice has always been a time to pause, gather and celebrate light, life and connection," she explained. "Hosting a community event around it is a way to honor those themes - especially together. It's more than just a festival; it's about creating a space where people of all ages can come out, feel connected and celebrate the season and each other. Whether you're coming for the music, the vendors, the kids' activities, or just the vibe, it's about being part of something joyful and local."
