Church posts concert, storytelling event

As part of the Church of the Apostles' 50th anniversary celebrations, the church will host a performance by the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble (PHE) on Saturday, May 3, at 4 p.m. at the church, 1850 Marietta Ave., Lancaster. This community ensemble is composed of auditioned, advanced-level handbell ringers from the greater Philadelphia area.

PHE's repertoire includes original compositions, classical transcriptions, and other music in diverse genres, showcasing the performers' mastery of advanced ringing techniques that go beyond traditional handbell sounds. The ensemble also explores collaborations with players of other instruments and expands the use of handbells in the performing arts. Through workshops, conferences, and community outreach, PHE promotes the art and education of handbell ringing.

The concert is free of charge, courtesy of the Apostles Academy of Arts and Science. A freewill offering will be received.

The Church of the Apostles has also planned a presentation by member, photographer, and author Bill Hager on Saturday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Hager will share two stories, "Evangeline: Guardian of the Muted Forest" and "Angel Island."
