Village Library To Host Financial Program

As part of its financial literacy program, the Village Library of Morgantown will host a free program titled "Planning for Retirement" on Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. and at 6 p.m. Topics will include Social Security, investments, Medicare and tax planning.

The seminar will be led by certified financial planner Steve Elliker, who was asked to present the program by Carol Donahue, library director.

"Carol and I connected at the Morgantown Area Business Association breakfast, and I reached out and asked if the library does educational seminars for financial issues, and they did not," Elliker stated. "(Carol) thought it would be a great partnership."

The seminar is open to people of all ages, particularly those of retirement age. "The target audience is people getting close to retirement or are currently in retirement, but it's open to all," said Elliker. "Even when you are 25 and you are working, you're thinking about retirement at some point."

Elliker will cover the general basics of financial planning. "The number one question that I get asked by people is, 'When can I retire?'" he noted. "We look at all your information and say, 'When do you want to retire, and can we get there based on your current information? If you can't get there, where do you want to go?'"

He added that there will be a time for general questions and answers. "Retirement is complex, and there are a lot of decisions to be made, and people want to have some level of confidence as they are walking into retirement," Elliker added. "That is what this seminar is about. There are topics you need to be aware of and information you need to know."

Elliker is planning to present future financial programs at the library in July and August. Specific dates and topics will be announced at http://www.facebook.com/VillageLibraryofMorgantown.

The Village Library is located at 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown. Those with questions may call 610-286-1022 or email Donahue at smolibrary@gmail.com.
