DCA Recognizes Students

Dayspring Christian Academy (DCA) recently recognized student achievements at the annual honors ceremony. Student award recipients included Daniel Mullin, Conestoga, who received the Rosalie J. Slater American Valedictorian Scholar Award, and Alayna Self, Lancaster, who received the Verna M. Hall American Salutatorian Scholar Award.

Twelve students were inducted into the National Honor Society. They are Olivia Dotson, grade 11, Marietta; Emily Gordon, grade 10, York; Jacob Jarkowsky, grade 10, Mount Joy; Jaylani Jimenez, grade 10, Lancaster; Joann Johnsons, grade 10, Lancaster; Madeline Landis, grade 11, Lancaster; Bernice Lezama, grade 11, Mountville; Cameron McAllister, grade 10, Willow Street; Tessa Romanyuk, grade 10, Lititz; Caleb Santos, grade 11, Leola; Addalie Stoltzfus, grade 11, Strasburg; and Jyla Stoltzfus, grade 10, Strasburg.

The following awards were given to the student with the highest grade percentage average in grades six to 11: Adalea Graybill, grade six, Pequea, Abraham Lincoln Scholar; Anita Ye, grade seven, Mount Joy, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek Scholar; Abigail Beiler, grade eight, Millersville, William Penn Scholar; Providence Painter, grade nine, York, Noah Webster Scholar; Konrad Poniatowski, grade 10, Lancaster, Sir Robert Boyle Scholar; and Kylie Smucker, grade 11, Lancaster, Frederick Douglas Scholar.

Alayna Self received the J.S. Bach Music Award, which is given to the student who best exhibits gifts, talents, and discipline in music and whose character and work glorifies the Lord.

Grace Stoltzfus, grade 12, of Landisville, received the Rembrandt Art Award, which is given to the student who best exhibits gifts, talents, and discipline in fine art and whose character and work glorifies the Lord.

Grace Stoltzfus and Abigail Straubel, grade 10, Lancaster, received the William Shakespeare Drama Award, which is given to the student who best exhibits gifts, talents, and discipline in drama and whose character and work glorifies the Lord. This award generally goes to one student, but this year was given to two students.

The American Christian Athlete Award was given to Mia Ployd, grade 12, Landisville, and Noah Huxta, grade 10, Lancaster. The award is given to students who have participated in at least two DCA sports (if offered). Students must have demonstrated high athletic ability, integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for others, including the coaches, officials, competitors, and team members. This award is presented to both a male student and a female student.

The PIAA District III E. Jerry Brooks Academic Excellence Award was presented to Preston Kauffman, grade 12, Pequea, and Mia Ployd. These athletes must be seniors who have maintained academic excellence throughout their high school career and participated in at least two varsity sports and earned a minimum of three varsity letters during their high school career. These students must also possess good citizenship and sportsmanship as defined by "The Fundamentals of Sportsmanship" in the PIAA Handbook.

The PIAA District III Fackler-Hower Sportsmanship Award was given to Jessiah Jimenez, grade 12, Lancaster, and Mia Ployd. The student-athletes must be seniors who possess good citizenship and sportsmanship as defined by "The Fundamentals of Sportsmanship" in the PIAA Handbook.

Preston Kauffman was awarded the Bennett Edward Kauffman Athletic Leadership Award, which is presented to a senior athlete who has demonstrated athletic ability, is competitive yet respectful, shows a commitment to the sport, is coachable, shows strong athletic leadership, and demonstrates a well-rounded character.

Alayna Self was awarded the American Christian Leadership Award, which is presented to a senior student who most demonstrates the qualities of Christian leadership through example and service. This student is a role model of note for others to follow.

Dayspring Christian Academy also awarded honors diplomas from the Honors High School. Honors High School graduates are Daniel Mullin; Maya Romanyuk, Lititz; Alayna Self; and Grace Stoltzfus.
