Fair To Feature Auctions, Tournaments

The 2025 Elizabethtown Fair will run from Monday, Aug. 18, to Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, 900 E. High St., Elizabethtown. To learn more about the fair, visit http://www.etownfair.com.

Three auctions will be held at the fair.

A baked goods auction featuring all the baked goods entered in the competitive exhibits will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, on the Pennsylvania Lottery Stage. These items will include the best of show decorated cake; blue ribbon apple pie; angel food cake; chocolate cake; PA Preferred junior brownie, cookie, or bar; and Mars Wrigley entries. Fair president Kenneth Myer will serve as auctioneer, assisted by John Carl.

On Wednesday, Aug. 20, the sale of champions will take place following the supreme champion events in the show ring. Rabbit meat pen, dairy feeder calves, beef, goats, market lambs, and swine will be auctioned. Harry Bachman will serve as auctioneer, assisted by Carl. Proceeds will benefit local youths.

The annual Elizabethtown Fair auction will offer items donated by local artists, craftspeople, merchants and fair vendors. Myer will serve as auctioneer, assisted by Carl. The auction will begin on the Pennsylvania Lottery Stage at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. The auction will include Elizabethtown Fair commemorative crocks filled with arrangements by local florists. Also featured at the annual auction will be the premium book cover artwork titled "Fair Friends" on a vintage tilt-top table painted by Nancy Landis, local artist, which will be auctioned off at 9 p.m. Landis is a lifelong Lancaster County resident. She has enjoyed providing the annual premium book cover for many years.

To donate items for the auction, call Darlene at 717-330-6023 or drop off donations at the fair office on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Three tournaments will be held at the fair on Aug. 23.

The Horseshoe Pitch Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Premiums will be awarded for singles at 40 feet and doubles at 40 feet.

Horseshoes will be supplied by the fair, or shooters may use their own shoes, if desired. National Horseshoe Pitching Association (NHPA) rules will apply, except as specified by fair officials. For information, contact Shawn at 717-719-1647.

A Buck Shot Tournament sponsored by Moo-Duck Brewery will be held on the Pennsylvania Lottery Stage at 3 p.m. The tournament is open to youths and adults. The youth division will include youths ages 6 to 18. For details, call Mike at 570-242-5658.

The Cornhole Tournament, with teams of two, will begin at 2 p.m. Boards and bags will be supplied by the fair, but participants may bring their own bags.
