Church Plans Benefit Dinner, Concert

Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, will host a benefit dinner and a concert on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The dinner will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the church's Worship & Event Center and will raise money to help self-employed painter Chris Lambert pay for medical and living expenses during his recovery from a work fall that resulted in serious injuries.

The menu will include lasagna, garlic bread, tossed salad, white and chocolate cake, and cold beverages. The dinner will be by donation, and checks can be made payable to the church with "Lambert" written on the memo line.

Entertainment will be provided by violinist Kaleb Lambert, who is the son of Chris and the grandson of Lenny Lambert, a member of the congregation.

After the dinner, the Allegro Chamber Singers will present a concert at 7 p.m. to kick off the church's 2025-26 Starlight Tea Concert Series.

The concert theme, "Seasons of Life," will showcase familiar tunes, such as show tunes from "Porgy and Bess," "Oliver!" and "Wicked," as well as works by Dan Forrest and David Bennett Thomas and "Lux Aeterna" from Michael John Trotta's Requiem.

The Allegro Chamber Singers are directed by Jon Clemens and accompanied by Monica Hochstedler Carlson. The group rehearses and performs in the summer months only, since many of the singers perform with other groups during the rest of the year.

Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be received. Tea and cookies will be served following the concert. For more information, contact planning committee chair Giny Mackey at 717-201-8450.
