Historical Society To Host Plein Air Event

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will host the Plein Air Quick Draw, an outdoor painting event, on Saturday, Aug. 9, at locations throughout downtown Mount Joy.

From 10 a.m. to noon, participating artists will have two hours to create original artwork inspired by the streets, structures and scenes of Mount Joy. Artists will paint "en plein air," a French expression meaning "in the open air," and must complete their works within the allotted timeframe.

Immediately following the competition, the public is invited to the Mount Joy Area Historical Society building, 120 Fairview St., from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for an art exhibit and sale showcasing the freshly painted works. This is an opportunity for community members to meet local artists, purchase original artwork and vote for their favorite pieces in the People's Choice Award category. The event is free to attend.

Artist check-in will take place from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Mount Joy Borough Hall, 21 E. Main St., prior to the painting window. Artists of all experience levels are welcome to participate, and advance registration is encouraged.
