Post 34 Will Host Inaugural Car Show

Cool cars and an air-conditioned restaurant.

They are two of the major selling points for the inaugural American Legion Post 34 car show.

The event will be held rain or shine on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the legion, 1388 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

There is a fee to enter classic cars, antiques, street rods, and muscle cars. Registration will begin at 3 p.m. There is no charge for spectators; visitors should park at the Farm & Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road.

"It's going to be a great social event," Post 34 financial officer Frank Judd said. "You'll get to meet other people who are interested in these cars, like a lot of us are. People will have a good time, and they'll see the best. They're also going to be supporting the American Legion Post 34. We have a lot of activities for veterans. We also have a Sons of the American Legion (group), we have an auxiliary, and we have the Riders. We have a pretty diverse group of people for members, plus we have a social membership. This goes to support any activities we do to support the veterans. We do activities in various veterans' hospitals, plus it's a great place for veterans to meet other veterans and get the kind of social support that some of them need."

Sponsors will choose the winners of more than 20 trophies. There will be door prizes.

Post 34's kitchen will be open during the event. "It's the best food there is," Legion member Chuck Husted said. There will also be a special area selling hot dogs, snacks, and beverages. Alcoholic beverages must remain inside the Legion building.

The Legion will sell T-shirts. DJ Eric Godfrey will provide music.

"I'd like to make sure everybody comes out and supports the legion," member Bill Eckman said. "We're a 501(c)(3) (charity). We depend a lot on different things to raise money to help us support veterans across the county, across the state, and the nation. Everyone's invited. Please come out and have a good time and enjoy yourself."

Barry Harsh, one of the event organizers, provided a friendly warning for participants. "One thing I do want to stress is when the people leave, no burnouts or the show will not happen next year," he said. "Police have been informed because they have to be informed of the car show, and they're going to be right on top of it. So if anybody gets out of line, they will be knocking on our door, and that will be it."
