Penn State To Offer Arborist Course

Penn State Extension will offer an Arborist Short Course, a four-day workshop designed to increase working tree knowledge and prepare participants for the International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist exam. The fall workshop will take place on Monday to Thursday, Sept. 15 to 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Penn State Extension York County office, located at 2401 Pleasant Valley Road, York.

Workshop instructors will discuss diagnosis of plant diseases and insect pests; nutrition and fertilization; selection, installation and establishment of trees and shrubs; soil and water interaction and management; plant identification; assessment and risk management; pruning; construction impacts and management; and safety and climbing.

The workshop is an in-person course aimed at arborists and other tree workers, landscape contractors and grounds maintenance staff. Lunch will be provided.

The "Arborists' Certification Study Guide" is required for the course. Participants can purchase the guide when registering, or they can register without the study guide and bring a copy if they already have one.
