Derry Church Sets Blessing of Animals Service

In celebration of all of God's creatures and their presence in people's lives, Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, will offer its annual worship service that includes a blessing of animals. The informal service will take place on the church's front lawn at the corner of Mansion and East Derry roads at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, weather permitting.

Animals on a leash, in a kennel or otherwise controlled may attend along with their owners. The worship service will include praise songs and hymns in addition to a hands-on blessing of animals and the people with whom they live.

Worshippers are invited to bring donations for the Humane Society. Requested items include any brand of canned food for cats, kittens, dogs or puppies; Purina Kitten Chow dry food; cat litter; cat toys; Kong dog toys in sizes XL and XXL; Nylabones; durable dog toys; small animal wooden chew toys and treats; Timothy hay; paper towels; laundry detergent; unscented bleach; and gift cards for gasoline, pet stores, discount retailers and office supply stores. Collection boxes will be available at the worship service.

Derry Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Worship services are held on Sundays at 8 a.m. in the chapel and 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary and are also livestreamed.
