Museum To Reopen With New Exhibitions

The Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) will reopen for the fall semester on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with a lineup of new exhibitions.

The exhibitions will include "Waste Not, Want Not," a collage by Mark Wagner that provides a tongue-in-cheek look at modern life through intricate assemblages of dollar-bill parts and everyday scraps. Wagner's artist books will also be part of this exhibition.

"Grit: Labor and Resilience in 1930s America" will feature photographs depicting the resilience and determination of those who lived through the Great Depression and its aftermath. Photographs in this exhibition are part of the Phillips Museum's permanent collection.

"Reflections: An Oral History of the Civil Rights Era at F&M" will focus on photographs and personal accounts of the experiences of nine African American F&M alumni who were students during the Civil Rights era.

"Stephen Althouse, Photographer: Material Representations" will feature large-scale, black and white photographs, which center on worn equipment associated with labor and farming. Althouse juxtaposes ordinary items to express spirituality and human emotion.

The public is invited to view the fall exhibitions at the Phillips Museum of Art from Sept. 2 through Friday, Dec. 5. The museum is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, except for Friday, Oct. 10, to Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Friday, Nov. 21, to Monday, Dec. 1. Admission is free. The Phillips Museum of Art is located in Steinman College Center at 628 College Ave., Lancaster. For more information, visit http://www.fandm.edu/phillips-museum.
