New Book-Sharing Box Installed in Birdsboro

A new Little Free Library, which invites readers to take a book or leave a book, has been set up at the Rosenberry home, located at the corner of Cocalico Road and South Kelly Drive in Birdsboro.

The book-sharing box, named Rosenberry Reads, was designed and painted by Martha Rosenberry, a preschool teacher, who wanted to share her love of reading with others. "I was an English major, and I love reading," she stated. "I love to get other people to love reading. I thought this would be a nice addition to the neighborhood. I think that sharing books is like a love language."

Rosenberry also designed a logo for the box, which depicts flowers growing out of a book. Also painted on the box are the words, "Take a book, Leave a book, Love a book, Keep a book."

"I have been wanting to do this for a while, so my husband gifted me a (library making) kit for Mother's Day. I had fun painting it, and we installed it together," she said, noting that the box is anchored into the ground by a mailbox post. "We are really proud of it."

There are paperbacks and hardback books in the box for adults, as well as children's books. Books that Rosenberry has placed in the box are embossed with her name and the logo.

"My dad had an embosser that said, 'From the library of' and his name," Rosenberry shared. "My dad passed away, and my husband gifted me an embosser with 'From the library of Martha Rosenberry' and the book with the flowers."

She emphasized that if a visitor takes a book, it is not necessary to add one. "I find that some people are afraid to take a book because they don't have one to drop off. I'm fine with people just taking them," said Rosenberry, adding that the box has become very popular in the community.

"Everyone is stopping, and all of neighbors said they love it. It's a big walking neighborhood, and a lot of people go on walks with their kids and their animals," she added. "People have come here and made friends with other people in the neighborhood."
